How Do I Prepare to Sell My Business?
There are just a few things we’ll need to get started!
FIRST: Take 20 minutes and write a short 1-page story about YOU, and your business
Let us know how long you have been in the industry, and the business. What drew you to it, and what you’d want to do if you sell. This helps us BOTH understand what excites, and what concerns you about selling. Then we work to create a narrative that positions the business to attract the right buyers. Writing the story also helps us understand where you’re coming from, and where you want to go. Then we set about getting you there!
SECOND: P&L statements, balance sheets, and business federal tax returns
We will need profit and loss statements, balances sheets, and your federal tax returns from the last 3-4 years to properly value your business. Together with “your story” we’ll put together a financial valuation for what the business would sell for, and most importantly, the narrative that talks about the history, and defines the strengths and future opportunities for the buyer.
